Catherine Barney
Catherine Barney is American Mensa's Public Relations Manager. Catherine acts as the account executive for the local groups, assisting with their local PR efforts. She coordinates the distribution of press releases, and tracks press clippings. She also responds to media inquiries, oversees special projects and programs such as Mind Games and National Testing Day, and is the National Office Liaison for the Gifted Children Committee.

Goals

After a presentation, group discussion, and exercises, each participant will be able to:
  1. State the purpose of publicity for a Mensa group.
  2. List three points to remember about taking charge of the PR operation.
  3. Name at least three resources available for PR information.
  4. Explain how being prepared for testing relates to PR.
  5. List five points to remember about the media.
  6. Give three ways to share PR success with a local group.

As a group, we will create a list of at least ten newsworthy activities.
