Objectives

Part 1

  1. Explain the variety of Mensa children's programs around the country - it varies according to the coordinators and the families.
  2. Discuss the difference between the Mensa member we usually see at events and "the average Mensan".
  3. Explain special steps necessary when working with children due to liability and safety issues, and how holding whole-family events is much easier and smarter than "for children" activities.
  4. Discuss ways to make youth a part of general activities of Mensa groups.

Part 2

  1. Discuss why whole-family activities are a better goal than activities solely for gifted youth.
  2. Brainstorm local age group interest, needs of families, etc.
  3. Describe different ways in which newsletters and other media can be used to reach families with children.
  4. List benefits of networking with other programs for gifted youth, and discuss membership for the local Gifted Children Coordinator.
