Presenter

Cookie Bakke
Cookie Bakke, aside from having the silliest name in American Mensa, has been the Associate Editor of the Bulletin for 16 years as well as the co-Letters Editor for the past three years. She is a former Editor of The Oracle (Orange County, CA) and the winner of a wall full of awards --- including the prestigious OWL and the National Service Award. By profession, she is both a journalist and magazine editor. Having taught on five continents, the rumor is that she knows her stuff. Mensans are forewarned to watch and listen carefully; she's also known as "The Queen of Fraud."

Goals

After a presentation and group discussion, each participant will be able to:
  1. Explain the pros and cons of elected versus appointed editors, and the editor on the ExComm.
  2. State the editor's relationship to the ExComm, the local members, and American Mensa.
  3. List the three things an editor must do.
  4. Give three examples of a good versus a bad editor.
  5. List the three main purposes of a local newsletter.
  6. State three reasons why a newsletter team is better than a single editor.
  7. Explain how to participate in newsletter exchanges.
  8. Elucidate one popular newsletter feature.
